Over the course of his 30-year career at Riker Danzig, partner Jeffrey B. Wagenbach has developed a deep understanding of environmental law. But there is more to effective legal representation than knowing the law, Jeff believes. "We're in the service business," he says. "We have to perform not only timely and accurate service, but a value-added service. My goal with each and every client is to give them not only solid advice, but useful service."
Jeff's practice covers a wide variety of areas, focusing on regulatory and transactional matters. He is frequently involved in litigation. He has developed a particular expertise in industrial site-recovery matters for guiding the process in a way that keeps the business goals in mind while addressing relevant regulatory issues. In addition, Jeff is well known for his work on wetlands cases that involve historical sites and buildings that are protected by the national Historic Preservation Act.
Jeff represents Fortune 500 firms and medium-sized companies alike. His clients include Bristol-Myers Squibb, Organon International Inc., Gerber Plumbing, and Pramar Realty. He also serves as New Jersey environmental counsel for a number of New York law firms, including Thelen Reid & Priest and Ropes & Gray.
Since 2005, Chambers USA: America's Leading Lawyers for Business includes Jeff in its Client's Guide for Environmental Law, calling him "an experienced environmental lawyer" who is "excellent in dealing with the most complex issue" and stating that "his expertise is strongest in industrial site recovery and wetlands cases." Jeff is noted for his significant expertise in regulatory and transactional matters. The Guide also states that he is greatly valued for his "excellent negotiation skills." Since 2001, Best Lawyers in America®, a peer review of U.S. lawyers, has included Jeff on its "Best Lawyers" list in the fields of Environmental Law and Environmental Litigation. Thomson Reuters has also included Jeff on the New Jersey “Super Lawyers” list for Environmental Law since 2006. Jeff is active within the environmental law sections of the American Bar Association and the New Jersey Bar Association. See Awards and Honors Methodology.
